BRFST : Guidelines for submission of project proposal for funding under NFP

  •
  •
  •
  • It is mandatory to have a coordinator from Institute For Plasma Research for every project.
  •
  •
  • It is preferred that the project budget is kept moderate (typically up to about  Rs. 10-20 Lakh/year. However, this is NOT a pre-condition and the final budget allotment will be decided by the committee on a case-to-case basis as well as depending on the number of proposals received per year).
  •
  •
  • It is preferred that PI's from one region pool their resources (expensive instruments and facilities) so as to reduce the project budget. PI's are requested not to propose high cost projects involving setting up of centre’s etc at this point of time.
  •
  •
  • Time scales of the project can be from 1-3 years for proposals from academic institutions.  Extension of the project (if required) would be decided by the review committee. For proposals from industrial establishments, the time is 1 year.
  •
  •
  • The PI is requested to closely interact with BRFST and his/her project coordinator from IPR for smooth operation of the project.
  •
  •
  • Please read the document "Guidelines for implementing BRFST R & D projects" carefully before submitting the proposal. This document is available on the BRFST website.
  •
  •
  • Please provide detailed specifications for Equipment / Computers / Software and  other high value items that are being budgeted in the project proposal. Purchase of computers & peripherals needs to have prior sanction of the board.
  •
  •
  • An institutional overhead of ~ 15% of the project budget may be added to the project.  This overhead is NOT applicable to additional funds sanctioned in subsequent years.
  •
  •
  • Fellowships for the project personnel : JRF : Rs.12,000/- p.m.  (+ HRA as per PI's institute norms) - fresh Postgraduate (MSc, MTech, MCA etc). Non-scientific staff (tech. assistant, project asst. etc) will not be supported by BRFST. Non scientific staffs are to be provided by the PI's institute.
  •
  •
  • SRF : Rs. 14,000 p.m. (+ HRA as per PI's institute norms) - Post graduation + 2 years research experience
  •
  •
  • Qualifications (for both JRF & SRF) : NET qualified OR 1st Class in the qualifying examination.

  •
  •
  • Contingency and Consumable heads are restricted to 0.5 Lakhs per year for non-experimental projects and 1 Lakh for experimental projects.
  •
  •
  • All equipment intended to be purchased in the project should be listed in detail with appropriate justifications (including computers & peripherals).
  •
  •
  • The PI should provide details of past and present R&D projects being undertaken by him/her. Details to be provided are, Title, name of the funding agency, tenure (from-to date), total amount.
